Milan Kuzica

Sculptor, painter and designer. Milan Kuzica studied shaping and design at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Kremnica and privately with Jozef Kostka, and graduated in 1991 from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, in design under Peter Paliatka and in sculpture under Juraj Meliš. In 1996–97 he taught at TAFE University Perth and at the High School of Design in Claremont, Australia, and completed a year's internship at the Greg James Sculptor Studio. He has lived and worked in Prague since 1997.
His work divides by form into the neorealistic and the abstract, but both express existential questions and the strained relationships between people and the environment that shapes them. Alongside classical bronze casting he works with materials and techniques of his own, among them “inorganicbio”, which joins natural, metamorphic shapes with an artificially constructed sculptural body and intense artificial colour: a palette that seems absent from nature, yet uncovers the invisible ultraviolet part of the spectrum through which animals and plants communicate.
He has exhibited in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Belgium, the Netherlands, Australia and the USA, and is represented in private collections at home and abroad. GreenLife, selected for Sculpture by the Sea in Perth in 2017, stood alone at Bondi in 2020 as a symbol of the global fight against Covid-19 and is now permanently installed on the Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail.
