In memory of Hedvika Vilgusová

The sculpture, dedicated to the memory of the Czech painter and illustrator Hedvika Vilgusová, joins the principles of the material and the spiritual world. That is why two different materials are wedded in it.

Organic matter — the natural stone below — forms the firm, stable foundation of the sculpture and is an image of the artist's earthly life. It recalls her time among us, her 22,111 earthly days and her love of making. The upper part, of an indistinguishable inorganic matter, is a mirror image of the natural stone that turns to the sky and becomes part of it. In it, earthly energy is reflected and turns into spiritual energy, beyond the grasp of our worldly senses.

The top of the sculpture, which the human eye no longer sees, is closed by a convex surface — a kind of mirror, an imagined link with the artist. It reflects everything that looks into it: the sky to the earth and the earth to the sky. The area of this circular mirror equals 22,111 units. The circle of life has closed.
